PM to attend summit of European and Asian leaders

The 10th meeting of Asian and European leaders should address the growing cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Asia and investments, as well as security challenges, joint commitment to environmental protection, social dialogue, eradicating poverty, promotion and protection of human rights, ASEM said on its website.

Butkevičius is scheduled to attend the events in Milan, Italy, until Friday.

Biannual ASEM meetings have been held since 1996, with Europe and Asia taking turns to host them.

The meetings bring together representatives of EU countries, the European Commission (EC) and 16 Asian countries, as well as the ASEM newcomers of Australia, New Zealand and Russia.
