According to the prime minister, such accounts are being used to invite Facebook users to join a shady system.
“It turns out that I’ve become the target of “African princes” or similar fraudsters. I have already received questions from several colleagues about unseen “Saulius Skvernelis” accounts. People are receiving invitations from these accounts to join some loan system which I, as prime minister of Lithuania, have allegedly joined”, the prime minister said in a post on his official account.
“I would like to clearly say that these accounts with various proposals are fake. Don’t get deceived”, Skvernelis warned.
He added that Facebook administrators had been informed about the fake accounts.
Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Raimundas Karoblis also came under a cyber attack last year when his Facebook account was hacked and later deleted. The police then launched a pre-trial investigation.
