“During the euro transition, people will be able to exchange currency free of charge for a set period at post offices. It is important for us to see that work goes smoothly over that period, therefore, we appreciate police assistance to ensure public peace and security at post offices,” Lithuanian Post director general Lina Minderienė said.

Police officers will ensure public peace and timely police response to threats and dangers, as well as provide uninterrupted police presence at post offices that will exchange litas to euros.

Mobile teams will escort vehicles carrying cash on established routes.

Lithuania intends to adopt the euro on 1 January 2015.
