Pope’s Lithuania visit will cost Catholic Church over half million euros

According to the statement, the money will be spent on “the preparation of the meeting program, the organization of registration as well as finding and training volunteers“. Moreover, part of the money will be spent on other costs, protection of and transport for the pope.

The state will allocate almost 1.75 million euros on the papal visit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be allocates not more than 1.2 million euros, and the Ministry of the Interior will get 248,000 euros.

Vilnius Municipality is set to receive up to 109,000 euros, and Kaunas Municipality will get up to 163,000 euros. Slightly over 28,000 euros will be allocated to the Ministry of Health.

According to the Church, these funds will be spent on infrastructure and security, and all events will be free but participants will need to register.
