President before visit to Kharkov: It is Ukraine’s city of strength

“Kharkov is highly symbolic place – it is merely 40 km away. It is a city that knows what freedom is and how it should be defended. Back in 2014, pro-Russian separatists had even taken over the local administration and sought to fully seize the region and destabilize the situation. It was the people of Kharkov who stood united to defend their city, fought for it and took to the streets – not just the National Guard but also citizens and even football fans. As a matter of fact, Kharkov was a symbolic border bastion of fights for freedom, the city of strength of the people of Ukraine,” Grybauskaitė said in an interview broadcast on the national radio LRT on Friday.
