President Grybauskaitė: Gazprom will no longer be able to dictate prices to Lithuanian

She said the contract, signed on Thursday, was “the result of successful Lithuanian-Nordic strategic partnership”.

“The long-term natural gas supply contract will guarantee operation of the LNG terminal and will provide the opportunity for Lithuania to receive gas from international markets and ensure safe gas supplies,” the Lithuanian president said.

“Finally, Lithuania will decide itself where to buy gas, and the existing monopolist will no longer be able to dictate political prices for us,” Grybauskaitė told BNS via her spokesman.

It was reported earlier in the day that Lithuania and Norway’s Statoil signed a five-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal preliminary valued at 2.5 billion to 3 billion litas (EUR 725-870 m) in total.
