“They want to destroy me. I have no other explanation. I have never given doping to anyone and have never distributed it. Quite the opposite, I have always told my students not to use anything prohibited”, Vyšniauskas was quoted in a statement issued by the federation.

Vyšniauskas was detained on Thursday and put into custody.

The police in the Lithuanian western port of Klaipėda confirmed that searches had been carried out at the coach’s address and large quantities of doping, including suspected psychotropic medication, were found.

A pre-trial investigation in this case was launched following a request of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency. The agency says as many as five athletes coached by Vyšniauskas, including the world’s vice-champion and Olympic medal winner Aurimas Didžbalis, have been caught using doping over the last five years.
