The minister said that Giuliani and he had discussed a possible visit in a telephone conversation, adding that the visit would focus on cyber and energy security.
“He does want to come to Lithuania in the near future, possibly in the spring. We would discuss many specific issues, such as energy security, in which he takes interest, and cyber security, which he has been assigned by President Trump to take care of,” he told the Žinių Radijas radio station.
Trump announced earlier this month that Giuliani would advise his administration on cyber security issues. The 72-year-old former New York mayor had earlier been mentioned as a contender for secretary of state.
Trump’s election campaign remarks that he would look at whether US allies in NATO were fulfilling their obligations before deciding whether to come to their defense stoked worries in Lithuania and other European countries.
