On Tuesday, President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted the oath of Darius Jauniškis, the new director of the State Security Department.

According to the presidential advisor, the fact that the new VSD chief is known very little to the society only shows that he had earned his post with his experience rather than political manoeuvring and high ratings. Kaminskaitė-Salters says that the president’s office expects the VSD to be more active and not only monitor but also prevent hostile activities.

“We should admit that Lithuania currently is under unconventional attack – we can notice both information and cyber attacks, cases of inciting discord, activities of shadowy structures. The VSD should be there for us in the front lines. It should be an active participant fighting against the consequences of such attacks rather than a passive observer,” the presidential advisor told the radio Žinių Radijas.
