“The President’s Office views this as yet another information provocation,” the president’s spokeswoman Daiva Ulbinaitė told BNS.
On the website www.kgbveikla.lt, the hackers published slanderous information about Grybauskaitė ‘s service in the KGB Soviet security committee, the Lithuanian Genocide and Resistance Research Centre said on Monday.
Grybauskaitė ‘s data and nickname Magnolija was added to the list of KGB agents.
The centre’s director Teresė Birutė Burauskaitė stated the information was “false and misleading.”
“A journalist told us at about 4 p.m. Our programmers are currently working on it. Grybauskaitė was included in the list we publish,” Burauskaitė told BNS.
Hackers also uploaded materials resembling archival documents in connection to Grybauskaitė onto the www.kgbveikla.lt website. The documents are described as a diploma from then Leningrad University of Zhdanov, an appendix and a hand-written copy of Grybauskaitė high-school graduation diploma, as well as documents.
The “file” also contains photocopies of Grybauskaitė ‘s notes, characteristic from her job and medical data.
MP Arvydas Anušauskas, a historian who studied KGB operations, told BNS that the website featured an “ordinary student file.”
“Student files are usually stored in universities,” he added. Given the fact that the materials were uploaded by hacking a website, Anušauskas said he is certain this was the job of the Russian Federal Security Service FSB.
According to the description in broken Lithuanian, they are “photocopies of student Grybauskaitė ‘s personal file from the years of her education in Soviet-era Leningrad.” The anonymous uploader said he represented an unknown organization, Kumštis (The Fist).
The incident was reported a few hours after Lithuanian intelligence institutions published reports about threats constituted by Russia.
Grybauskaitė graduated from then Leningrad University with a degree in political economics in 1983 and worked in a fur factory while in school.
In 1988, she defended a dissertation at the Moscow Academy of Public Sciences and received doctoral degree in economics.
