“In consideration of the arguments presented in the LRT’s note and the content of the MP’s statements, recommend S. Jakeliūnas to avoid preconceived and lacking basis in facts evaluations, which could diminish the formal reputation of a legal entity (including the LRT),” a response signed by commission chairwoman Rita Tamašunienė states.

In late November, the LRT reported a statement by the member of Seimas, which harmed the Lithuanian public broadcaster’s formal reputation. The LRT’s complaint to the Journalist Ethics Inspector refers to S. Jakeliūnas’ statement on November 8 at a Seimas sitting, where amendments to the political party law were being debated, with S. Jakeliūnas accusing the LRT of broadcasting one party’s propaganda and speaking of suspect financing. The claims were firmly rejected by the LRT as completely baseless.
