DELFI / Mindaugas Ažušilis

The Seimas will probe into the potentially illegal use of the state’s assets and property by Austėja Landsbergienė, wife of the leader of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) Gabrielius Landsbergis. Also under investigation are potentially illegal activities of companies owned by Druskininkai Municipality; violations of the Law on Local Self-Government in Druskininkai Municipality; other suspicions caused by decisions taken by national and municipal institutions which were directly related to Druskininkai Municipality or members of its Council.

The resolution, submitted by Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė as a matter of urgency, was supported on Thursday by 109 MPs, 1 MP voted against with 4 abstentions.

Landsbergienė runs a private kindergarten and has allegedly raised her fees just before Vilnius Municipality introduced subsidies for parents to be able to enrol their children in private pre-school education institutions.

Social democratic politicians in Druskininkai Municipality are suspected of having used spa facilities owned by the town to entertain their private guests.
