Initiated by MPs Mykolas Majauskas and Dovilė Šakalienė, the changes were voted unanimously, with 116 parliamentarians voting in support. The vote triggered a wave of applause in the Seimas hall.
The amendments defines all types of violence against children, including physical, psychological, sexual and negligence.
According to the law, “all forms of violence against children, including corporal punishments, are banned”, and parents and other legal guardians of a child, as well as the state must ensure protection of children.
