The Lithuanian parliament has adopted amendments to the Law on Referendum, simplifying rules for citizens’ legislative initiatives.
Groups who wish to call a referendum will be able to collect citizens’ signatures online. Moreover, they will have six months for that, as opposed to three months according to the current rules.
Amendments will enter into force in October 1, 2016.
In order to call a national referendum on any issue, citizens’ initiative groups have to collect at least 300,000 signatures.
