“The information that was provided is really serious. The intelligence services did a great deal of work and the Seimas will also have a lot of work to do,” Vytautas Bakas told reporters after the committee’s meeting.

According to him, Darius Jauniškis, the VSD director, and other security officials who were present at the meeting provided more information than publicly available, including classified data covering the past 15 years.

The committee is looking into whether Bastys’ ties pose a threat to national security. The panel’s meetings are held behind closed doors and its members decline to comment in more detail in the probe.

The parliament has also launched impeachment procedures against Bastys, who is a member of the Social Democratic Party’s political group at the Seimas, over his ties with the Russian energy industry and Lithuanian criminals.
