“We are speaking about stepping up soldiers’ motivation, a review of the pay system and the creation of conditions for soldiers’ income to rise,” Vytautas Bakas, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense, told BNS Lithuania.

Under the Ministry of National Defense’s proposal, soldiers’ salaries would rise 10 percent this and next year each and further grow 5 percent in 2020. Around 83 million euros would be allocated for the four-year period.

The plan would also envisage better social guarantees and incentives as well as bonuses for impeccable service.
