Political analyst Ramūnas Bogdanas criticised that fact that Skvernelis agreed to be the leader in the party‘s electoral list, but refused to join the party or assume responsibility for its operations.
He noted that after joining the Peasant and Greens Union for the upcoming parliamentary election, the current interior minister talked about values, but did not name any.
However, Skvernelis said he has chosen an approach based on values rather than party politics.
“Today it is the only political force that has opened the doors for non-political people allowing them to maintain their independence, their autonomy. It is based on values acceptable to me,” said Skvernelis.
Vincentas Vobolevičius, the manager for program of political science at the ISM University, was equally critical.
“It will not bring anything good for Lithuania, because they will use the party as a promotion tool and then will fly away to who knows where. The approach is to choose an attractive looking party, take a seat on the train, get into power, maybe get one of the desired ministries – and then what? Where is the vision for the government? Where are the key messages, except very general statements about transparency, about responsibility and sobriety?” he asked.
