The office will run social advertisements on TV and radio stations, in movie theaters and on the streets to raise public awareness of the harm of victim-blaming in violence against women.

“If you blame the woman who has suffered violence, you support the perpetrator,” read street posters in Vilnius, Kaunas and other Lithuanian cities and towns.

Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson Agneta Skardžiuvienė says her office wants to show how deeply victim-blaming attitudes are rooted in the culture of Lithuanian society.

Almost 48,000 cases of domestic violence were recorded in Lithuania last year and four in five victims were women.
