The unresponsive soldier was discovered at around 7 a.m. at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Range after a night in an outdoor camp.
Paramedics were called in and also an ambulance from Pabradė arrived. The medics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the soldier.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the soldier. The soldier sacrificially performed his duty to the Homeland. We are grieving together in this hour of immense sorrow and loss,” Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas was quoted as saying in a statement.
Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas has visited the training range in Pabradė where troops from the prepared reserve are undergoing repeated training.
The diseased solder, 31, did not complain about any health issues. He was single, had no children and lived with his mother. The soldier’s family has been informed.
The military police are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
