BNS asked LSDP members holding posts in the ministries for economy, foreign affairs and justice under their party’s coalition agreement with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LFGU) about whether they would resign.

Deputy Justice Minister Justas Pankauskas and Auksė Kontrimienė, advisor to the justice minister, said they had already tendered their resignations to Justice Minister Milda Vainiutė, even though the LSDP-delegated minister herself opted to stay on.

Deputy Justice Minister Paulius Griciūnas is currently on vacation and declined to comment on his plans to BNS.

The Foreign Ministry’s Social Democrats do not intend to step down.

Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius decided to remain in his post and to leave the party. His Social Democratic deputies, Neris Germanas and Darius Skusevičius, and advisor Domas Petrulis said they would not resign as long as the minister trusted them.

Economy Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius offered his resignation and the Social Democratic members of his team now wait for Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis to accept the minister’s resignation, after which all of his political appointees will lose their posts.
