Spanish lab confirms ASF virus at Lithuanian pig farm

Jonas Milius, director of the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service, was informed about this on Friday.

“The reference laboratory in Spain has confirmed the same ASF genotype as the one registered in Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Poland and other countries. This corroborates the conclusion of our national risk assessment institute, based on which we took measures at the Idavang complex,” he told BNS.

The chief veterinary officer said that he was “99.999 percent confident” that the national laboratory’s conclusion was correct.

“I did not expect any other answer from the Spanish laboratory,” he said.

All 19,000 pigs at the Rupinskai complex in the Ignalina district were exterminated after the ASF virus was detected on the farm on 24 July. The complex is owned by Denmakr’s Idavang, the biggest pig farming company in Lithuania.
