“We feel we have contributed to reflecting the historical truth and we think we did a good thing. However, we would not be surprised, if our efforts will be interpreted as self-will,” Dalius Mikelionis, heritage protection specialist at the Biržai municipality, told the daily.
Audrius Skaistys, deputy director of the Lithuanian Cultural Heritage Department, said municipalities were free to build explanatory signs next to monuments and did not need any instructions.
