The boat is turning 25 next year, which would make Kursis the youngest object in Lithuania’s history under state protection.
Vitalija Jonušienė, owner of the boat, said that the flatboat was made by her husband in 1993 and was still fit for sailing, however, needed constant repairs. Heritage protection specialists said the owners would be able to apply for funding for maintenance, if Kuršis is listed as a cultural value under state protection.
