Darius Jauniškis, the department’s director, said that the special anonymous telephone line will help Lithuanian citizens to more actively and directly contribute to the strengthening the country’s security.

As part of the public awareness campaign, video clips based on real life stories of recruitment of Lithuanian citizens by foreign special services will be broadcast through mass media channels.

“We are a small border nation. We are continuously getting messages of occupation content from the East and are facing new threats to our national security: terrorism, the refugee crisis in Europe and an increase in cyber attacks,” the director said.

“We expect that an increased awareness of the situation will make citizens stronger and capable of defending themselves and their families, thus making our state stronger as well. By inviting citizens to call the confidential hotline, we are promoting their sense of responsibility, critical thinking and citizenship,” he said.
