Steinmeier will be accompanied on his trip to Rukla by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis and Chief of Defense Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, the Defense Ministry said.

The German-led NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group currently comprises over 450 troops from Germany, 20 from Luxembourg, 250 from the Netherlands and over 200 from Norway.

NATO has deployed troops to the three Baltic countries and Poland in response to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Moscow says that the Alliance’s actions threaten its security.
