The Pope Versus Hitler: ‘Docudrama’ on controversial WWII pope being filmed in Vilnius

The film, which began filming in Vilnius on 29 April with New York-based Castle Pictures and local co-producer Baltic Film Services, aims to show why Pius XII chose not to speak out about Hitler’s actions. Some have even accused Pius XII of being sympathetic to the Nazi cause, but this film will seek t show that he chose not to speak out due to his belief that his involvement would simply make things worse. Some historians have also credited him with taking actions that saved many Jews’ lives.

The film was written, directed and produced by Christopher Cassel, a Primetime Emmy Award-winning director, writer and producer based in New York.

Filming in Vilnius will wrap up on 11 May, and the film will be broadcast on TV in 2016 in the US.
