Thermo Fisher, AIG top list of most trusted companies in Lithuania

Biotech company Thermo Fisher Scientific and AIG topped a list of the most reputable companies in Lithuania according to a new Business Reputation Index.

“The general public‘s attitude to companies reputation in many cases is much more favourable than the decision makers‘ and opinion leaders‘, who are much more critical towards all companies,” said Mykolas Katkus, chairman of the board of the communications consultant agency VRP Hill + Knowlton Strategies that initiated the survey.

Sicor Biotech was ranked the third most reputable company in Lithuania, with Barclays coming in fourth and Western Union fifth.

In general, the survey found the Lithuanian public, decision makers and opinion leaders saw the country‘s IT companies and service centers in a good light, along with pharmacy network operators.

The index is based on a detailed assessment of the reputation of enterprises operating in Lithuania by three key groups – the general public; opinion leaders – journalists, bloggers, non-governmental sector representatives and experts in various fields, as well as decision-makers – the largest enterprises, public institutions, business managers, politicians.

The survey was carried out for the first time in Lithuania and Katkus said that in recent years businesses are giving more attention and investment to their reputation.

“It is understandable – the good reputation of a company generates more loyal customers, favourable government and society approach to business challenges, helps attract the best talents. However, the study shows that it is important to foster the reputation not only by means of communication. The activities of the business are much more important to the society,” said Mykolas Katkus.

The survey found the financial stability of the company, good business organization or a continuous, consistent financial activity have a less significant impact on the company’s reputation than ethical behaviour and fair competition, business honesty and responsibility.
