Three Seas Initiative summit approves projects of importance to Lithuania

The list will help link together 12 countries in the region via modern energy, transport and digital interconnections and will give Lithuania an additional opportunity to secure support from the nations for these projects and to promote cooperation between public, business and financial institutions, it said in a press release.

“There more interconnections there are in Europe, the less fragmented and the more resilient and safer we are,” Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, who is taking part in the summit in Bucharest, said in the press release.

“Modern energy, transport and digital interconnections not only help strengthen European integration and regional economic progress, but are crucial to ensuring the security of the countries as well,” she said.

The leaders placed special emphasis on the development of electricity and gas interconnections, which will help diversify energy sources and supply routes and develop markets, Grybauskaitė said.

This means both a stronger energy union in the EU and the bloc’s higher resilience to external energy pressures, she added.
