Transport minister calls for discussion on “alcolocks” in rented cars

The police say the driver of a rented car was drunk.

“Drink-driving is a serious problem in Lithuania, and various steps are being taken to prevent and stop those tendencies. But it seems that all effort is going to waste as people’s mentality has not changed enough to understand that one mustn’t get behind the wheel while drunk. One of the measures we need to discuss is the installation of alcolocks in rented cars”, Masiulis told the Lithuanian Radio.

“We will invite companies involved in this business to solve this issue of installing alcolocks as soon as possible”, the minister said.

According to the police, a woman, born in 1991, was killed in Vilnius early on Saturday when a taxi she was in was hit by a rented CityBee car. Its driver had 1.51 per mille of alcohol in his system.
