Two Lithuanian volunteer soldiers come to blows during exercise in Germany

One of the two members of the Lithuanian National Defense Volunteer Force was taken to University Hospital Regensburg after the incident that occurred during the Allied Spirit VIII international exercise, it said, adding that the injured man, a corporal identified by his initials T. B., was in stable condition.

The US military police launched an investigation immediately after the incident at the US military base. The Lithuanian military police started a pre-trial investigation on Monday.

While the investigations are ongoing, both the soldiers involved in the fight and the commander of their unit will be ordered to return to Lithuania. Their possible removal from office will be considered. The injured corporal will be transported to Lithuania for further treatment when his condition permits.

Over 30 troops from the 6th Territorial Unit of Prisikelimo Military District of the National Defense Volunteer Force left for Germany on Jan. 14 to participate in Allied Spirit VIII.

Around 4,100 participants from 10 nations, including Albania, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, the United Kingdom and the United States, are taking part in the exercise at the 7th Army Training Command’s Hohenfels Training Area between Jan. 15 and Feb. 5.
