Two WWII aviation bombs neutralized in western Lithuania

Weighing 250kg each and containing a total of about 240kg of explosive substances, the bombs were discovered under a railway bridge near the village of Panemunė. The Ministry of National Defence said on Tuesday the operation involved all necessary services, which ensured safe neutralization of standard explosives in the region close to the Russian border.

Carried out by soldiers of the Juozas Vitkus Engineering Battalion, the operation was complicated due to the large calibre of the standard explosives.

The operation was completed in about five hours.
