Shevchuk will visit the Lithuanian Constitutional Court, meet with Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis, members of the parliament’s Committee for Legal Affairs, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, chairman of the Union of Tatar Communities in Lithuania, Adas Jakubauskas, and rector of the Mykolas Romeris University, Algirdas Monkevičius, the Lithuanian Constitutional Court said.
Shevchuk was elected to head the Ukrainian Constitutional Court last February. A permanent head of the institution was elected after almost a year of absence.
According to the press release, Shevchuk is known to the global community of judges as a representative of the new generation, the Maidan. He works to move the most advanced standards of the European Court of Human Rights to the system of the Ukrainian Constitutional Court, consistently speaking in support of harmonization of the interpretations of the Ukrainian Constitution with the requirements of the European Union law.
Immediately after appointment as judge of Ukraine’s Constitutional Court in 2014, Shevchuk initiated termination of a memorandum of cooperation with the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation after the Russian court’s ruling contributed to the annexation of Crimea.
