Vilnius considers free public transport for Feb. 16

Remigijus Šimašius, mayor of the Lithuanian capital, the council has been asked to support the idea due to a large number of events planned in the city on the festive day and an effort “to use all means of creating a festive atmosphere in the city.”

“The events will kick off in the morning and will last until the evening, therefore, we want the people to be able to attend as many as possible, without limiting themselves due to transport costs and avoiding possible traffic jams in the center. Therefore, we will propose a decision to the city council to provide free public transport on Feb. 16 for all city residents and guests,” Šimašius told BNS.

Feb. 16 marks 100 years since the Council of Lithuania restored the independent state of Lithuania in 1918.
