The message is laid down in a note sent to Minsk as a response on Friday over the alleged incident at the facility that occurred last December.
“Based on information received from Lithuania’s competent institutions, the note from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests that no incidents threatening the society took place at the Ignalina NPP during the period at issue, the radiation background had not changed,” the ministry said in a press release.
According to the communique, hot tests are carried out in the new solid radioactive waste storage complex (project B2/ 3/4) in the framework of the Ignalina decommissioning projects revealed that two faucets for removal waste from the old facilities fell short of the standards of the technical design, therefore, the work was halted until the errors are corrected.
The ministry said the inconsistencies cannot be qualified as a nuclear incident under the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES), as margin values of staff exposure were not exceeded, with no leak of radioactive substances to the environment established.
On Wednesday, Minsk handed a note to Lithuania, expressing concern over Lithuania’s failure to notify Belarus about the event.
