In his words, talks are beginning with the Culture Minister on changing the building’s cultural purpose.

“Removing that old terminal from the heritage list would be an important political step so that we could demolish and build a new modern arrivals terminal for people to feel in a modern country when arriving in Vilnius, and not see this peculiar one which does not represent us as an innovative country the transport minister told the parliamentary Economics Committee on Wednesday.

In his words, the plan is to demolish the old one and build a new terminal in 2028–2030.

“Until then we have to ensure capabilities in Kaunas so that we don’t need to close Vilnius Airport. (…) A new terminal needs to be built in Kaunas,” the minister said, adding that the government plans to discuss the Kaunas airport plans in December.

In his words, there are plans to connect Kaunas Airport with the Rail Baltica‘s Vilnius branch.
