In her words, the number of higher education institutions will be established after the reform is launched.
“First of all, I think we should start speaking about the quality of education and higher education, not the numbers. We should not start with numbers. The number of universities will crystallize after we launch the actual reform of the quality and see what network Lithuania needs,” Grybauskaitė told journalists in Zarasai, eastern Lithuania, on Thursday.
The recording of her statement was published by her press service.
The government last week announced it was initiating the higher education reform aimed at improving the quality of studies. In the presentation of the reform, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Education and Science Minister Jurgita Petrauskienė said the reform should leave Lithuania with up to five state universities, with bachelor’s education delivered free of charge.
