Which Baltic capital is cheapest to live in?

Vilnius

The study showed that people living in Riga have the highest monthly average expenses at €585 but Vilnius was the second most expensive capital to live in at an average of €525 a month, with Tallinn the cheapest Baltic capital to live in at €493.

Despite lower wages, people living in Vilnius incur almost the same level of expenditure on food, housing and transport as in Latvia and Estonia.

“Taking the food, housing and transport Riga is the most expensive city to live in but Vilnius residents are left with the smallest amount of money after these expenses,” said Odeta Bložienė, the head of Swedbank Finance Institute.

The main reasons for such differences – differences in income levels. The average family income is the lowest in Vilnius, while food prices in supermarkets in Lithuania and Estonia are essentially the same.
