During the first six months of 2016, electricity production in wind farms in Lithuania increased by 53.5% compared to the same period last year, and is 70% above what it was in 2014, shows Litgrid data.
New wind power parks have significantly added to the growth in electricity production this year, economists say.
Wind turbines produced 456.7 GWh of electricity in the first half of 2016. In the same period in 2015, wind power production reached 297.5 GWh, while in first half of 2014, 268.8 GWh. Electricity produced in wind farms over the first half of 2016 accounted for nearly half (49.5%) of the total electricity produced in the country.
