Officials from the European Commission will visit the Rupinskai pig complex this week, Jonas Milius said. Idavang, the largest pig farmer in Lithuania, owns the farm.
“The slaughter of pigs on the farm was completed last night. Less painful work and disinfection remains to be performed now,” the director of the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary service told BNS.
“The European Commission’s representatives are coming to Lithuania this week to see how we are handling the situation,” he said, adding that the visit is standard procedure.
An ASF outbreak was reported at the Rupinskai complex on 24 July. It was the first case of the deadly virus found in domestic pigs in Lithuania.
