300,000 packs of contraband cigarettes found on train in Lithuania

The cigarettes, worth around 900,000 euros including taxes, were found hidden inside stacks of particleboards on a train from Belarus, Lithuania’s Customs Criminal Service said on Friday.

The discovery was made on Tuesday morning by customs officers at Vilnius railway station after a weight discrepancy was noted. The train entered Lithuania through Kena railway station.

Upon more detailed inspection, officers discovered cavities made in stacks of particleboards, often called “coffins”. All in all, 300,500 packs of Belarusian cigarettes NZ Gold, Minsk 5 Superslims and Queen Menthol were found.
