Belarus stops pedestrian traffic at car checkpoints on border with Lithuania

It is no longer allowed to cross the border on foot. Now one can get to Lithuania, Latvia or Poland only by transport.

The reason for this decision, as Belarus says, is overloaded border crossing checkpoints, originally intended for servicing vehicles, tvr.by said.

The restrictions will not affect cyclists. They will have to stand in the general queue or in the queue for owners of two-wheeled vehicles. Border guards say that the restriction for pedestrians is temporary.

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service said that from January to August, 2014 the four largest checkpoints were used by a total of 468,230 people to cross the border on both sides.
