Vytautė Smaižytė, spokeswoman for the transport minister, told BNS that the official was quitting his job voluntarily.

Tvaronavičius, who has recently received a reprimand as a disciplinary sanction, told BNS that his decision to step down came after media reports alleging that a bidding process to select the contractor for upgrading the Kybartai border checkpoint had been non-transparent.

The official said that there had been no pressure from the Transport Ministry on him to resign. He insists that the bidding process was transparent.
