“We, Lithuania, are looking at the United Kingdom‘s membership in the EU from the security perspective. We care very much about the EU’s stability, its reliability and depth.

“For us, the EU is not just an economic organization, but also a security organization which gives us economic stability as well as some sort of hard security. Being at the core of EU integration is our security guarantee.

“There are many who think similarly. We are facing both economic and legal issues [in case of Brexit], but the most complicated question is a philosophical one: is this a crisis of the idea of the EU, when nations start considering to leave it? We need Great Britain in the EU, we need a strong and reliable EU, we need integrated EU,” Neliupšienė said in an interview to the Veidas magazine.

She also said that the EU was not considering any “plan B” in case British voters voted to leave the union, nor any additional conditions to those that British Prime Minister David Cameron negotiated with the European Council in February.
