According to Grybauskaitė, this year in Europe has been different from 2013 in terms of both security and business due to geopolitical tensions. The president expressed her satisfaction that Sweden, which is not a member of NATO, nevertheless shares with Lithuania and the entire Alliance similar views on security threats both worldwide and in Europe.

“Regarding this geopolitical situation the Nordic countries have never disappointed Lithuania,” she said during the opening ceremony. The president also spared no criticism to those who want to indulge interests of Russia‘s business and politics.

“We must understand and ask ourselves openly – what kind of country is created by Vladimir Putin? A country where there are no normal business conditions, where businesses are corrupt or criminal (&) Ethics coming from the East bring corruption through energy resources and their prices. Everybody, including politicians in this room today, must understand that energy resources cannot buy our freedom, independence and determination,” the president said in her speech.
