Constitutional Court finds chief vet’s sacking in line with Main Law

“The Constitutional Court (…) finds (…) that the government’s resolution of Sept. 28 of 2016 to dismiss Jonas Milius from director of the State Food and Veterinary Service does not run counter to the Constitution (…),” the Constitutional Court’s president Dainius Žalimas said on Friday.

The appeal to the Constitutional Court over Milius’ dismissal from the post was last year made by the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court, asking to scrutinize the government’s decision taken in September of 2016 to reject Milius’ report of operations.

Law-enforcement officials have brought suspicions of abuse of office and document forgery against Milius. The Special Investigation Service is investigating suspicions that Judex, a Kaunas-based frozen food company, sought to influence the veterinary service via Petras Gražulis, a member of the Seimas, to avoid penalties for violations.
