Defense Chief in Germany to discuss service of troops, acquisitions

On Monday, Zukas is scheduled to meet with his German counterpart, General Volker Wieker, and members of the German Armed Forces Association, the Defense Ministry said.

The meeting between the two chiefs of defense should focus on the service of combat team serving in the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Lithuania and the use of the team in case of a military conflict.

The battalion’s combat team is headed by German troops who also make the bulk of the team, which currently also includes soldiers from Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Projects to purchase infantry fighting vehicles Boxer and self-propelled artillery systems PzH2000 from Germany’s Defense Ministry by Lithuania should also be high on the agenda along with cooperation between naval forces of the two countries.
