On February 28, a Šiauliai court sentenced Russian citizen Sergey Moiseyenko to 10 years and six months in prison, he was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a large number of munitions, explosives and grenades, while former Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base officer, captain Sergejus Pušinas was sent to prison for five years for spying.

The verdict was not final and subject to appeals.

Vytautas Joncas, spokesman for the Siauliai court, told BNS on Tuesday that Pusinas had asked the Court of Appeals to curtail the sentence to three years, while Moiseyenko asked to be cleared of all charges or have his sentence curtailed.

According to case information, Pušinas between 2012 and the end of 2014 collected information for Moiseyenko about Lithuania’s Armed Forces and operations of NATO air-policing missions, locations of military capacities, military operations in Afghanistan, intelligence aircrafts operated from remote locations, their flights and possible stationing locations.

The court also established that Russian intelligence had also received copies of documents of the Lithuanian Defence Ministry and copies of personal files of some officers of the Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base. Some of the documents were classified.
