Fifteen school students from eastern Ukraine come to study in Lithuania

“We are proud that Lithuania can help children who were affected from the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. We hope that such initiatives will help children to continue their education and seek knowledge, to know better Lithuania, and that newly formed friendships will strengthen Lithuania’s relations with Ukraine,” said Lithuanian Ambassador in Kiev Petras Vaitiekūnas.

Ukrainian children will be educated in a separate class with Russian as the language of instruction, just like in their schools in Ukraine, while the Ukrainian language will be taught as a separate subject.

Lithuania has allocated LTL 330,000 (EUR 95,000) for education of school students from Ukraine.

Ambassador Vaitiekūnas addressed the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania with a request to help orphans affected by the aggression in eastern Ukraine.
