On the occasion, more than 50 guests – members of the association, business representatives and international guests – gathered in European Commission Representative Office in Finland for the seminar “Euro and small countries – gain or pain?”
After welcome speeches of Mr. Rauno Viemerö, Chairman of the Finnish-Lithuanian Trade Association, and H.E. Mr. Arūnas Jievaltas, Ambassador of Lithuania in Finland, the panellists presented their views on the topic.
Mr. Johnny Åkerholm, Chairman of the Board, of the University of Vaasa, started the seminar with keynote speech “Euro and member states, safety net or straitjacket?“
The expectations of Lithuania on euro zone membership were presented by Lithuanian Vice-minister Mr. Aloyzas Vitkauskas followed by Latvian head of Euro bureau Ms. Arina Andreicika, who told about Latvia´s first experiences in the euro zone. Mr. Jorma Alanne, Head of Pohjola Bank´s Baltic operations gave finance sector’s observations on the euro in small countries.
