The number of flu-related deaths during this season so far is twice as high as in the full 2016-2017 flu season, when the illness claimed three lives.

None of the seven people who died this season were vaccinated against the flu, the center noted.

Eleven pregnant women have been hospitalized with the flu this year, as many as during the entire flu season last year.

According to the Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS, a total of 219 people — half of them minors and 24 children aged under two years — were hospitalized with the flu on Feb. 12 through 18.
